Hello Friday!

I don’t know about you guys, but it’s FRIDAY!  For some of you that means payday, or perhaps your going to the beach.  Not for me however, my adventures have been limited by my budget.  My house needed a new roof and my living room needed a new couch (I am ridiculously excited about my new couch though).  Have no fear dear readers, this is leading to my next adventure- what to put on the sad, empty wall behind my lovely new couch.

ART!  I love art.  It can tell a story about a person, place, thing, or even a state of mind.  Colors, mediums, and subjects can liven up a drab, dark room or they can act as a soothing element to a busy space.  My Saturday morning adventure is going to take me to the Rail Walk Studio’s and Gallery in search of a large painting to bring a little energy to my neutral space.  The Rail Walk Gallery is comprised of local artists that work with a variety of mediums.  There are currently 6 artists located in the historic buildings on Lee St.  I’m excited, this will be my first trip and hopefully not my last- http://www.railwalkgallery.com/index.htm.

Right next door is Looking Glass Artist Collective (http://www.salisburyartists.com/47101.html) and I’m going to stop in there as well, just to see if I find anything.  Sometimes I’m not sure exactly what I’m looking for until I see it, so I can’t leave any stone unturned, right?

What are your weekend plans going to be?  Is anyone going to head out to some of the free events this weekend?  I’d love to hear about it if you do.

Happy Friday,
Miss M

Facebooking…

At work?  You bet.  Social media is the hottest marketing outlet and you need to learn how to use it, effectively.  For me, this isn’t very hard since I grew up with this technology.  However, for some of my more “seasoned” peers it’s quite a challenge, and may require a little hands-on guidance.

There are so many different ways to connect to consumers- Blogs, Twitter (find us @SRARAssnOffice), Facebook (you can find us there, too), MySpace, YouTube, Zillow, Trulia, I can keep going on and on.  We want to help you learn how to use this technology to boost your business, just follow the link- http://www.superiorschoolnc.com/programs-courses/professional-development/socialmediatraining/social-media-wave/.

The link above is just a sample.  If you’re interested in really getting down to the nitty-gritty of social media marketing, call me here at the office, (704) 636-1811.  We’re going to be holding an “InstaTekkie”course in September and it’s FANTASTIC!  You can read the testimonials here at http://coursecreators.com/; I’m really excited to polish my tech skills and pick up some new ones :)  While parts will be geared specifically to REALTORS, anyone can attend- the basics apply to everyone so don’t be shy!!  Come on over, learn some new skills, go home and reach your potential!  We can’t wait to hear from you :)

Happy Facebooking,
Miss M

It’s “Weekend Wednesday!”

You know what that means, right?  The weekend is just a few days away!  I’m really excited but that’s because I don’t have anything to do except sit pool side at a friends house drinking pretty summer cocktails :)  Ok, ok, so maybe I have a few thing on my “to do” list…

So you all have time to plan, I’m going to post the weekend happenings on Wed; after all, it’s the middle of the week and it’s really nice to have something to look forward to.  So here it is, Weekend Wednesday!

Also on Friday, our good friends down at The Blue Vine are having a live performance by the Ashley Jo Farmer Band and it’s FREE- http://www.thebluevine.com/.  Make sure to sign up for The Blue Vine’s e-newletter so you can keep up with their ever-changing events- there’s ALWAYS something going on at The Blue Vine!

7. Sunday will be a nice day for a garden stroll.  The Festival of Gardens is being held on Saturday AND Sunday.  You can find out times and ticket pricing here on the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra website- http://www.salisburysymphony.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=10&Itemid=26.

There’s plenty to do this weekend!  As always, if there’s something that you think people should know about, please leave a comment and let me know.  Otherwise, stay cool and enjoy your weekend :)

Writers Block and Golf

I’m a little stuck today on what to write, I admit.  It could be that I’m hungry (but I’m always hungry) or it could be the heat, maybe a little bit of both.  Either way, I don’t like it.  I tried to help myself by doing other things, like pulling some signs for our golf tournament.  Are you a golfer or do you know someone who is? If you do and you’re in the Salisbury area on Thursday, July 28th, we would love to see you out at the The Country Club of Salisbury for our 6th Annual Captain’s Choice Golf Tournament.  We’re going to start serving lunch at noon and then we’ll have a shotgun start at 1pm.  Give us a call here at the office, (704) 636-1811 and we’ll email or fax you a registration form.

Were any of you able to get out and enjoy some of the events that were going on in Salisbury?  How were they?  I’m already scouting for new weekend events, so be sure to check back later in the week.  If you’re looking for something to do during the week, then you may want to wander over to The Blue Vine.  They’re offering a weekly lunch special, wine tastings, Girls Night, and Thirsty Thursday, plus they’re having FREE MUSIC on Friday and Saturday night!  You can’t beat free, right?

Til tomorrow,
Miss M

Vacation?

I wish.  This afternoon, I’m going MIA and will be working at my other job until Sunday.  I hate leaving you, my loyal followers (all 3 of you) but it must be done.  Since I won’t be blogging while I’m away, I’ll leave you with some things that you may want to do or get more information on.

1. It’s never to early to start planning your visit to the Faith 4th of July celebration!  It’s just down the road, won’t break the bank, and is going to be going on all week leading up the the 4th- http://www.faithnc.com/.

2. Tar Heel Boy’s State will be held at Catawba College on June 19th- 25th.  This group of outstanding young men will hopefully be our future leaders- http://www.catawba.edu/news/archive/2011/06/15/boysstate2011.aspx.

3. Looking for something to do?  Stelia Cafe Lounge is hosting a live performance by Caleb Hill on Friday, June 17th and The Reamingtones on June 24th;  Make sure you sign up for their news letter- http://www.steliacafelounge.com/home.aspx.

4. If you’re out an about on Saturday, June 18th, be sure to wander down to Waterworks Visual Art Gallery and tour their latest exhibit, “In The Details.”  You can find all of their current and upcoming events here- http://www.waterworks.org/currentlyonexhibit.html.

5. Sacred Grove Retreat is going to be welcoming the summer season with a pot-luck feast, sure to be a good time- http://www.sacredgroveretreat.com/calendar/index3.php?action=display&id=196.

6. For the tennis fans out there, you should watch the SPRD and Kiwanis Junior Open Tennis Match- http://www.visitsalisburync.com/calendar/default.aspx?eventID=1128&eventDate=6/19/2011.  We may see one of these talented players at Wimbledon some day!

I think I’ve left you with enough to do while I’m away.  Is there anything else going on in town this weekend that you’d like to share?  If any of you go to these events, I’d love to hear how it was!

Til next time,
Miss M

Our Background

Literally, the background on our blog here at WordPress.  Have you taken a good look at it?  No, you say?  Ok, I’ll give you a minute to look.

Now that you’re done looking, are you wondering what it is?  Even if your answer is “No”, I’m going to tell you.  It’s a mural of historic downtown Salisbury.  Titled “Crossroads: Past and Present,” it was started in 1978 by Cynvia Arthur-Rankin; she finished in 1981.  I didn’t really know much about this landmark until I found this article (http://www.salisburypost.com/News/060510-mural-w-pix) published by the Salisbury Post (Mark Wineka, author) last June.  I don’t want to steal their article, so click the link and read it straight from the source :)  After a little more digging, I found them on Facebook!  They are a non-profit group called The Mural Preservation, Inc., created to help with the maintenance.  I think you should “Like” them, it’s a simple way to play a part in preserving our town history.

One of the nice things about living in Salisbury is the strong “arts” presence; the mural is just a small part.  The Art Guild, Waterworks, Art Walk, performance groups and theaters… I could go on, but will have to wait as I’m off to set up for a meeting.  I do hope that you’ll check back with me in the future as I profile some of Salisbury’s artsy residents.  Do you know of an artist in the Salisbury, NC area that you would like to learn more about?  Let me know, I’d love to talk to them!

Til next time,
Miss M

Small Talk…

…usually consists of the weather, family, school, and work.  After that, silence.  Around here, the weather has been a hot topic of conversation (no pun intended :) .  Ranging from high heat to tenacious thunderstorms, record winds and surprise tornadoes, it has certainly kept us guessing.

As we move out of storm season and into “real” summer, the guessing is gone; we know what the next 4 months are going to be like- HOT.  My phone’s weather app icon was a sun with a little cactus next to it :-( This means that keeping cool becomes an everyday challenge for humans and animals alike.  There are a few things that you can to to make the summer scorchers a bit more bearable, even if you don’t have a pool.  I was looking for a different article when I found this one at Realty Times- http://realtytimes.com/rtpages/20110608_staycool.htm.  This is only talking about humans, but I’m going to do a follow up post on how to help your fur-babies keep cool too!

How do you keep cool on the sticky summer days?  Do you have any tips to offer?

My Favorite Place

This post title reminds me of grade school in the fall, when the teachers ask you to write a short essay on how you spent your summer.  Well, if I had my way I would spend every Saturday of my summer at the Salisbury Farmers Market.  Located on the corner of South Main and East Bank Street, the breeze blows cool in the shade of the green tent roof.  It’s bursting at the hand-stitched seams with crisp produce, fresh flowers, and friendly smiles.

I took my shopping bag and some cash… I realized after my first purchase (a dozen ears of corn for $5.00!) that I should have brought a bigger bag!  I’m a fan of buying local and seeing all the fresh veggies sent me into a bit of a frenzy.  I ended up with corn, onions and tomatoes, freshly ground peanut butter and tomato/basil focaccia bread, and some hot mustard and zucchini relish.  If I had brought my cooler, I would have also gotten some organic, grass-fed beef :)

If you’re interested in learning more about the Salisbury Farmers Market, please visit their webpage- http://www.salisburyfarmersmarket.com/.  Next Saturday morning, go see them in person!

‘Til next time,
Miss M

Welcome Home

What is home?  Some say it’s where you lay your head, others say it’s where the heart is.  Either way, home is here in Salisbury, NC.  I am part of the  Salisbury/Rowan Association of Realtors but I’m not actually a REALTOR; I work in the office doing… well, anything really.  Like this blog.  It’s work, and I’m hard at it.

My goal is to explore the Salisbury, NC area and highlight some of the people and places that make this my home, and will hopefully encourage others to call it “home” as well.  I hope that you’ll join me on this adventure and look forward to hearing what you have to say about this historic southern town.

See you soon,
Miss M
